About Exmoor Ponies:
The Exmoor pony is a rare breed native to the British Isles, with 'endangered' status. Many herds can be found running free at Exmoor National Park, a large area of moorland in Devon and Somerset in southwest England. These hardy ponies are one of the oldest and most primitive horse breeds in the world, with ancestors dating back to the Ice Age! Historically, Exmoors were used for farm work and riding. Today they're mainly used for pleasure riding and the show ring. Exmoor ponies typically stand 11.1-12.3 hands high and are characterized by their bay or brown coloring with distinctive mealy (oatmeal-colored) markings around the muzzle, eyes, and flanks. They're known for their incredible hardiness, intelligence, and gentle temperament. Exmoor stallions are protective of their herds and can survive harsh moorland conditions year-round. The breed is critically endangered with only about 800 ponies worldwide, making conservation efforts crucial!
