About Red Kangaroos:
The Red Kangaroo is the largest marsupial in the world and an iconic symbol of Australia! Male red kangaroos can stand over 6 feet tall and weigh up to 200 pounds, with their distinctive rusty-red coat (females are smaller and blue-grey). Red kangaroos are famous for their incredible jumping ability—they can leap up to 30 feet in a single bound and reach speeds of 35 mph while hopping! Their powerful hind legs and large tail work together for balance and propulsion. The tail is so strong it can support the kangaroo's entire weight. Red kangaroos are marsupials, meaning females carry their babies (called joeys) in a pouch. Joeys are born tiny (about 1 inch long!) and crawl into the pouch where they continue developing for 6-8 months. Red kangaroos live in groups called mobs in the arid and semi-arid regions of Australia. They're herbivores that can survive long periods without water, getting moisture from the plants they eat. Male kangaroos 'box' with each other to establish dominance!
