The front (obverse) features the state seal in gold on a navy blue field, with "State of Oregon" above and "1859" (the year of statehood) below. The seal depicts a shield with mountains, forests, a covered wagon, the Pacific Ocean with a British man-of-war departing and an American steamer arriving, a plow, wheat sheaf, and pickaxe representing Oregon's industries. An eagle sits atop the shield, and 33 stars surround it representing Oregon as the 33rd state.
