About Llamas:
Llamas are domesticated South American camelids that have been used as pack animals and livestock guardians for over 5,000 years in the Andes Mountains. They're larger than alpacas, standing 5.5-6 feet tall at the head and weighing 280-450 pounds. Llamas are characterized by their long necks, banana-shaped ears, and fluffy wool that comes in many colors including white, brown, black, and spotted patterns. They're intelligent, gentle animals known for their calm demeanor and curious personalities. Llamas are excellent guardians for sheep, goats, and alpacas—they'll chase away predators like coyotes and dogs. They communicate through humming, and when annoyed, they're famous for spitting (though they usually spit at each other, not humans). Llamas are sure-footed pack animals that can carry 25-30% of their body weight over mountain trails. Their soft fiber is used for textiles, though it's coarser than alpaca wool. Llamas are social herd animals that form strong bonds and make wonderful farm companions!
