CollectA Borealopelta Armored Dinosaur - Northern Shield Nodosaur 1:40 Scale #88841
The Best-Preserved Armored Dinosaur Ever Found
Witness one of paleontology's most spectacular discoveries! Borealopelta—the "Northern Shield"—is based on a fossil so remarkably preserved that scientists could determine its actual skin color for the first time in dinosaur history. This CollectA replica brings to life the reddish-brown, counter-shaded armor of this Early Cretaceous herbivore, complete with the bull-like shoulder spines that made it a formidable sight 110 million years ago.
Museum-Quality Detail & Scientific Accuracy
- Authentic reddish-brown coloring - based on actual preserved pigments from the fossil
- Counter-shaded camouflage pattern - darker on top, lighter below, just like the real dinosaur
- Bull-horn shoulder spines - long, curved defensive weapons protruding from the shoulders
- Heavy armor plating - detailed osteoderms (bony plates) covering the body
- 1:40 scale accuracy - proportionally correct to the actual 18-foot-long animal
- Model #88841 - part of CollectA's Prehistoric Life series
A Fossil Frozen in Time
Discovered in 2011 in Alberta, Canada, the Borealopelta fossil is so well-preserved it's been called a "dinosaur mummy." The nodosaur was swept out to sea and sank to the ocean floor, where it was rapidly buried and fossilized with its armor, skin, and even stomach contents intact. Scientists were able to analyze the preserved melanin pigments to determine that Borealopelta was reddish-brown with a counter-shaded pattern—darker on top to help it blend into its environment despite weighing over 3,000 pounds!
This herbivorous tank lived approximately 110 million years ago during the Early Cretaceous Period. Perfect for collectors who appreciate cutting-edge paleontology and the incredible stories fossils can tell.
